Putnikovići is a picturesque village situated in the central part of the Pelješac peninsula, at an altitude of 156 metres, 17 kilometres northwest of Ston. It has a population of around 360 that engage mostly in agriculture, wine growing, fishing, shell fishing and tourism. The village consists of several hamlets, some of which are located along the island’s main road, while the others are set behind the nearby hills.
There are several churches in Putnikovići: the 16th-century parish church of St Mary Magdalene whose present form dates back to the 19th and 20th centuries; the baroque church of St Anna from the turn of the 16th to 17th century; the church of Our Lady of the Rosary, consecrated in 1569, which includes a built-in Roman stele from the 1st-2nd centuries; the baroque church of the Holy Trinity (also called Holy Sunday) dating back to the 16th century; and the church of St Michael in Dubrava, from the turn of 15th to 16th century.
